Choosing Your Hold Downs
You’re in the market for a new Shade Shed or Shade Shelter but, how do you know which hold down option works best for you?
Hold downs are what anchor the base rails of the Shade Shed or Shade Shelter to the ground and come in three different styles; saddles and bolts, concrete piers and ground anchors.
Saddle and Bolt Set
Saddles and Bolts are used if you are erecting your Shade Shed or Shelter on a concrete slab. The base rails lay on the slab, the saddles sit on top and are bolted to the concrete. Be sure to check how thick your slab is first, if it is thinner than 300mm you may need to ask for additional hold downs to ensure your Shade Shed or Shelter will meet the minimum engineering requirements when erected.
Concrete Pier Kits
Concrete Piers can be used if you need to cement your footings in, but don’t want to lay a full concrete slab on the property. To install, you need to dig your footings to the required depth and width, locate your pier and cement them in. The base rails of the Shade Shed or Shelter then lay between the exposes ends of the pier and are secured with a saddle.
Ground Anchor Set
For Shade Sheds and Shade Shelters 6m wide and under Ground Anchors are a concrete-free installation option in any region. Yes, they have been engineered for use in Cyclone Rated areas too. The Anchor hammers into the ground and the base rails of the Shade Shed or Shelter then lay between the exposed ends, similar to the concrete pier option, and are secured with a saddle.
