• RHS Steel Frame
• Tek Screws
• Colorbond© sheeting and flashing in your choice of colour
• Colour matched Roofing Screws
• Choice of Hold Down options: Saddles & Bolts, Concrete Pier kits or Ground Anchors

Australia is divided into four wind regions based on the different types of windstorms that are typical to that area.  A structure with Wind Region Rating has been engineered to withstand the wind loads of that area as set out under the Australian Standards AS/NZS 1170:2:2002.

  • Wind Region A includes the southern coastal and inland areas of Australia and have an Ultimate Design Wind speed of up to 147.6km per hour.
  • Wind Region B includes the northern coastal areas of Australia that are not prone to cyclones and have an Ultimate Design Wind speed of up to 186.84km per hour.
  • Wind Region C includes the Tropical Cyclone prone regions of northern coastal Australia and have an Ultimate Design Wind speed of up to 232.2km per hour.
  • Wind Region D is the only part of Australia that is Severe Tropical Cyclone prone and have an Ultimate Design Wind speed of up to 316.8km per hour.

Why is this important when you are purchasing a Shade Shed or Shelter?

As a Shade Shed or Shelter is generally used to protect your most valuable assets, you want to ensure that it is tough enough to withstand the elements year-round.  This rating gives you the peace of mind that no matter the weather, your assets are safe and sound.

At QLD Shade Sheds we have engineer designed and certified our own range of Shade Sheds and Shelters to the highest Australian Standards and build each one to order using RHS galvanised steel and Colorbond® sheeting and flashing in your choice of colour from their standard range.

Certified for your particular Wind Region and backed by our 10-year Structural Warranty, our Shade Sheds and Shelters offer you the perfect solution to affordable weather protection for just about any application from carports, caravan and boat shelters to livestock and horse shelters and commercial Shade Shelters.

Our patented Easy Sleeve connecting system not only offers additional strength and support to the design, they also make installation easy and stress-free.  In most cases all you need is a drill and a ladder and away you go.

You’re in the market for a new Shade Shed or Shade Shelter but, how do you know which hold down option works best for you?

Hold downs are what anchor the base rails of the Shade Shed or Shade Shelter to the ground and come in three different styles; saddles and bolts, concrete piers and ground anchors.

Saddle and Bolt Set

Saddles and Bolts are used if you are erecting your Shade Shed or Shelter on a concrete slab.  The base rails lay on the slab, the saddles sit on top and are bolted to the concrete.  Be sure to check how thick your slab is first, if it is thinner than 300mm you may need to ask for additional hold downs to ensure your Shade Shed or Shelter will meet the minimum engineering requirements when erected.

Concrete Pier Kits

Concrete Piers can be used if you need to cement your footings in, but don’t want to lay a full concrete slab on the property.  To install, you need to dig your footings to the required depth and width, locate your pier and cement them in.  The base rails of the Shade Shed or Shelter then lay between the exposes ends of the pier and are secured with a saddle.

Ground Anchor Set

For Shade Sheds and Shade Shelters 6m wide and under Ground Anchors are a concrete-free installation option in any region.  Yes, they have been engineered for use in Cyclone Rated areas too.  The Anchor hammers into the ground and the base rails of the Shade Shed or Shelter then lay between the exposed ends, similar to the concrete pier option, and are secured with a saddle.

Here at QLD Shade Sheds our Kits include your choice of hold down option at no extra cost, you just simply pick which option works best for your property.  If you have a tricky or unique site, we can even mix and match the options for you to make sure it is just right.
